Olivia S - Portrait #4

I chose this portrait of my sister as my favorite because I felt like it was the sharpest image and had good composition. This picture was taken downtown. Even though this picture is goofy, the detail and sharpness of it, makes the subject stand out. I used the sharpen tool, and adjusted the brightness and contrast. This picture could be better by choosing a different back ground that doesn’t interfere with her clothes or take attention off of the subject. I chose this as my best because it describes my sisters personality the best, and i used my favorite camera to take it. These pictures turned out the best. I really liked this assignment because i could take good pictures of my friends and family and really interact with them. I used three different cameras for my 30 portraits, and the best ones came from the camera i used for portrait #4. A really good camera makes a huge difference.

Olivia J - Sunglasses Candid

My favorite picture is a candid of my best friend, Michaela. I took this photo on the deck of a house in construction. She was sitting criss-cross and I took the picture looking down at her. I edited it by correcting the levels and colors. It could have been better at a different angle, but I chose it as my favorite picture because it was unposed and natural. I had a lot of fun taking portraits for this assignment, because portrait photography is my favorite.

Sara S - Nicole and the Smiley Tree

I call this photo Nicole and the smiley tree. I took this picture at veterans park. My friend Nicole found this tree and she really wanted to take a picture with it. I used the saturation tool to get more red for the smiley face. I cropped the picture to get her into the rule of thirds. Then i edited the levels a little bit to make it darker. It could be better if the background was a little different. I chose this as my best because I love how happy she looked and the tree was cute. I loved this assignment. I got to have fun with my friend and capture her personality in my pictures.

Taylor S - Glass Eyes

The title of my picture is Glass Eyes. It was taken at Cry Baby Bridge. I took this picture by zooming in closely to her face to focus in on her eyes. I edited this picture by changing the levels of the picture. I then brought out the highlights in her eyes and saturated her eyes. This picture could have been better if I did not have a woman in the background. I chose this picture as my best because it focuses in on her blue eyes. I enjoyed this assignment, but not as much as I liked The Black and White Project.

Rachel F - Old Car

This photo is of an old car that I saw outside of a store in Alabaster. I like this picture because in black and white makes the contrast stand out and it highlights the shininess of the car. I like the viewpoint of the picture which is looking down the side of the car because it gives it a cool effect and also has leading line. One thing I would change about this picture is having unity in the background instead of the house in the background so there would be no distractors. Overall, I like how this photo looks very vintage and brings out the old qualities of the car.

Morgan P - Caroline

I took this picture at Railroad Park one afternoon after school. It is of my friend Caroline and It is my favorite from the project. The lighting is nice and the sun is not too harsh. If I went back to change something, I would have made sure that Caroline was more in focus. I enjoyed the way I could use saturation to bring out more color but not ruin the picture.

Rebecca P - Portrait

I chose Portrait one as my favorite portrait. I took this picture at the pumpkin patch while we were just standing around. she has her hands on her head and i just snapped a picture of her. i edited this picture by messing with the curves and levels and messed with the saturation to make the colors pop. it could be better by maybe making it a little lighter and to have a some shadows on the face. i chose this picture as my best because the composition is good and she just looks good in this picture. this assignment was actually pretty fun. taking pictures of my friends was fun and it was easier to get 30 pictures of people than of things, in my opinion.

Preston R - Squirrel

I gave this the title Squirrel because it was a picture of a squirrel. It was made in my neighbor’s yard. I got as close as I could and zoomed in pretty far. Honestly I was surprised it turned out this good. I edited it by adjusting the curves and increasing the contrast between the lights and darks. It could have been better if it followed the rule of thirds better. It was my best picture because it had great colors. I enjoyed this assignment, and editing the pictures was fairly easy compared to the Letter assignment.

Merritt H - Stinky Sutton

This picture is of my dog Sutton.  I took this when she was stinky and needed a bath.  She never stands still while in the bath so this was a very lucky picture and I love it!

Madeline E - In the Woods

My favorite picture I took was the one in the woods. I want to call this one “In the Woods”.  This picture was takes in woods in my neighborhood and i set the camera on the ground and took it, for the best angle. I like this the best because it focuses on the textures on the ground and the trees and everything above kind of has a blur effect making you focus on the textures on the ground. I edited this picture in photoshop and converted it to black and white. The angle could be better. I liked this assignment because you could really take a picture of anything and when you turn it to black and white it looks cool.

Michaela G - Portrait

This portrait was made at my house in the woods. I edited the picture by cropping it, making it smaller. The picture could be better if i added a filter. I chosen this picture because i love the trees and nature behind/in front of  her. I had a lot of fun with the assignment although i thought you could have two people in a portrait.

Meg M - Old Canister

My favorite photo from the black and white shooting assignment is the photo of the old spray paint can in the leaves. This photo was taken in my backyard when i was searching for photo opportunities for the assignment. I edited the photo by changing it to black and white and then adding the high contrast blue filter. This photo could be better if it were more focused because it is slightly blurry on the bottom edge of the can. I chose this photo as my best because i found the subject of the photo quite interesting and it just appeals to me. Personally i enjoyed this assignment because i favor black and white photographs over ones in color.

Mary-Katherine C - Portrait

I chose this portrait picture of my friend Tatiana. This picture was kind of difficult to take because my friend was a little wary of laying down in the leaves because we thought that is was poison ivy. But once she was surrounded by the leaves I fanned her hair out and took the picture. Next, when I started to edit the picture I adjusted the levels, and boosted the saturation.

Marvin T - Sister

This is a picture of my little sister which whom i love with a passion. I like to take pictures of her all the time because I did not have much baby pictures when i was young. I just want to capture her growth in the process. Also taking pictures of babies are awesome and i have an opportunity to take a picture of my sister.

Lauren L - Portrait

I chose this picture because I think it has a good composition and a solid emphasis. The picture was taken at sunset so the warm colors compliment the fall background. This picture holds interest because she looks intrigued or mystified about something on the horizon.

Noah P - The Bridge

I chose “The Bridge” for the title because it is a picture of a bridge that leads into the woods. It was made at the beginning of a nature trail thats in my neighborhood. My only edits were cropping it so the dirt thats at the beginning of the bridge didn’t show and i cleaned up the debris on the bridge. I could have made it better by cleaning the bridge up in photoshop better. I chose it as my best because I like the way the bridge stands out in front of all the nature in the background. I liked this project better than the photomontage because I actually got outside and took pictures and that made the experience more fun.

Matthew S - Black and White Alligator

This picture was taken in Louisiana on an air boat tour. Our guide decided it would be fun to feed the alligators, and as he brought one to the boat I happened to snap a picture of it while swimming. I really like the picture because you can see the texture on the alligators back and also the rippling in the water.

Congratulations Jordan!

Jordan's photograph "Peaches" was awarded first place at the Alabama State Superintendent's Visual Arts Show.

Jordan S - Peaches

I took this picture named “Peaches” in Foley, Alabama. I was driving to the beach and saw this and had to stop to take a photograph. It was the building of a farmers market. I turned this picture black and white by adjusting the curves and levels. I did not change much in this photo except for the color. To improve this photo I could have less distractions on the walls. I could also lighten the bottom of the photo. I enjoyed this project because you were given the freedom to take any pictures of your choice.

Josh T - Dog

This picture is entitled Dog. I created this picture by having my dog look towards the camera during the early “golden hour.” My favorite part of the composition is the different color values in my dog’s hair. I could have improved by not making the picture so dark.

Madelyn H - Portrait

This is a picture of one of my best friend’s who offered to be my model for my project. I like this picture because even though she can’t play guitar, she looks like she can here and because she looked really pretty in this photo.

Leah M - Portrait

This picture was made at Aldridge Gardens on a bridge. I made her lay on the bridge so that I could take a picture of her from bird’s eye view. I edited this picture by changing the color, contrast, and saturation and cropping it so that there is better composition. This photo could be better by zooming out so that one of her hair is cropped out. I chose this one as my best because it has to best composition and editing. I had a great time with this project because I got to work with people.

Jordan D - Portrait

This picture is one of my favorite portrait pictures because I love how the tone is serious. Most portraits usually are smiling or even laughing and this is something different. I edited this photo by bringing out the levels and highlighting her necklace. I also brought out the shadows and saturation in her eyes some. I then made her lips a little bit more big to give it that balance. I overall enjoy this picture because I think Taylor looks so pretty.

Gracie S - Black and White Deer

This picture was taken at about 6 a.m. in my backyard. I got up early to take this one Saturday because I knew that deer come to our yard really early in the morning. I was in the basement when I took it but had the window open and they came up really close. They both knew I was there but kept eating, so it was really easy to take their picture. This is probably my favorite picture just because it amazes me to see how close they got.

Mariah M - Flower

This is my picture of a beautiful flower I see all around my neighborhood.I have never seen a pink flower before and when I saw this around and automatically that this would be beautiful to take a picture of. Creating it into the black and white, the flower still looks good.

Lindsey M - Portrait

My favorite portrait I took was “Portrait1.” I took it at Veteran’s Park on the dock by the lake with my camera. I changed the Levels of the picture and made it darker with Brightness/ Contrast adjustments. I think it would have been better if her hands were not blurry. I have chosen it as my best because I love the sunlight reflecting off the lake and the girl’s expression. I thought this assignment was fun but also challenging.

Gillian E - Wagon Wheel

I like this picture mostly because it has a lot of texture in it. I took this picture in leeds by the train tracks. I edited it by changing the curves and levels. I also gave it a tint.

Jonah T - Sign

My favorite picture was the picture of the sign. I took the picture downtown. i edited it by putting both a black and white and a curves layer on the picture. It could have been better if I had focused more on the leaves on the ivy. I chose it as my best because it is the best composition. I had fun with this assignment.

Lauren J - Portrait

In this Portrait project, this was my favorite portrait that I took. This picture is a picture of my best friend Marie and we were at Veterans park. She was sitting down on a stage and she was just looking out into the park. I edited this picture by first changing it to black and white because I felt it added to her facial expression. Then I messed with the levels, curves, etc. till I felt that it looked good. This picture can be better by maybe focusing in more on her. I chose this one as my favorite because after I did all of the editing, I really liked the way it turned out. I really enjoyed doing this project because I really love taking pictures of people and I especially liked working with the people I worked with this time. They were really great subjects to work with.

Jakob C - The Great Sport Shots

My title is The Great Sport shots. My pictures were made after our throwing session every tuesday and we took them at veteran park. I edited my pictures by having them cropped and had some features on them. My pictures could be better if i kinda focused a little more and took more time in them. I chose it as my best because i thought it was my best picture and had some candid again. My experience with the project was a whole lot of fun. The crew had a great time messing around and posing and i have to say I’m the best model in the world.

Jack S - The Constitution

My favorite photo I edited was my picture of the Constitution, the title of the work is The Constitution. I took this picture in my house using the replica of the Constitution which I bought when I was in Washington D.C. I edited it by applying the black and white adjustment and adjusting the colors. Also I used the curves adjustment to change the lighting. It could be better if I were to take more time arranging the picture. My overall experience with this assignment is I enjoyed it and am happy with the pictures that I took.

Devin T

I enjoy this picture of the yellow flowers. This was taken outside of my house in my driveway. The flowers are well-centered, and the sun shines directly onto the yellow of the flowers, which creates a beautiful image. There are no shadows in the way of the flowers, so the flowers stand out. This was one of my pictures for the Black and White Picture Project.

Libby S - Color

I chose this photo because it is one of my favorites I have taken in this class. I like the vibrant colors of the flower and the overall composition of the picture. I used the rule of thirds and the background was pretty consistent in color. I used the dodge tool to brighten everything and boosted the brightness and contrast to make everything look more blended despite the added contrast. I never expected that a simple picture of a flower I took would turn out to be such a good photograph.
