Hunter F - Savannah

This picture is from the portrait assignment and it is of my friend Savannah. The reason I like this picture so much is because she is laughing and having fun with the picture, which made her a good subject. She was having fun with the project which created a good mood. She made the overall project more fun because of her attitude towards it.

Heather W - Sunflower

I titled this Sunflower. My favorite color is yellow, so that is a color that I really wanted to pop in a picture. I found a really pretty sunflower and took a picture of it at Old Baker Farm. If I could change one thing it would be how the flower seems to glow; I would make it more crisp. I took this picture on my iPhone 5s on my own time and edited it during class, but not for a project. I was experimenting with black and white with a splash of color.

Caleb G - Portrait

The best photograph I took in this assignment is the one of the sausage stand. I took it at Tanehill State Park during their Halloween festivities. I edited it by using the dodge tool to saturate the older man in the center and the items and objects around him, and desaturated the other people in the picture who were not as important. It could be better if the focus were more on the subject and less on the people around it, maybe if the other people weren’t there. I have chosen it as my best because it displays the most clarity about the subject and accurately portrays his character. The assignment itself was enjoyable. I very much liked it, especially when I saw a better subject come along.

Lauren F - Portrait

The photograph I chose to use was the photo I captured of Alexis. In this picture, Alexis is positioned in a way where it just works. She is sitting on these steps that we found at Mt. Laurel. This photo really captures my eye, I guess it is the way the steps in the background really stand out. Her facial expression is really strong and the way she is sitting on the steps look great. She positioned her foot where it is kind of at an angle, she uses her hand and lets her head rest upon it, also the way the cardigan is kind of laying on the steps beside her just makes this picture all come together. For this portrait, I used a couple of things. First I would fix up the image and use the patch tool and also the spot healing brush tool to get rid of any blemishes, then I would add some brightness to the picture and contrast. After that, I go and add vibrance and a little bit of saturation to the photo. Finally, I add some offset to the photo and a little exposer to it. I loved this assignment. Portraits are one of my favorite things when it comes to photography.

Hieu H - Home

This is one of my favorite photos I shot and edited. I was just cruisin’ around my neighborhood on my skateboard with my camera after school and saw this house that I just thought seemed very worthy for a photo. There were large dogs, however, that were barking very loudly at me. I edited this photo to black and white which looked very nice because the house was already black and white.

Brittany W - Portrait

This photo was taken on the steps of my front door. I told Emily to sit on the steps and look way from the camera and make a strait face. The picture already had good contrast before i edited it but it needed just a little bit of editing to make it better. I adjusted the levels, brightness, and contrast to make her brighter and put the focus on her while making the background darker. I choose this as my best portrait picture because the colors and the position she is in is perfect. As I experimented with angles and photoshop I started to like this project. It turned out to be a lot of fun.

Crew V - Hat

The picture I chose for this blog post is my favorite black and white picture that I took. I really like the composition of the picture and how the wood from my deck provides and extra texture. The picture was taken on my back deck with my Columbus Crew hat. When I edited this picture, I had increased the saturation and lightness of the hat to really make the hat stand out from the other greys, blacks, and whites.

Gill S - Leaves

My title for this picture is Leaves.
This was taken on my back porch in the afternoon.
I edited it by making it black and white, and I changed its color slightly.
It could be better if it was in color, or if it followed the rule of thirds better.
I chose this one as my best because i like how you can see the rays of light.

I thought that this assignment was actually tough as it was hard to take pictures that would look good in black and white.

Drew H - Grassy

The title I gave my picture is Grassy. I took this picture outdoors in my neighbors yard. In order to make this picture, I had to lay flat on the ground and make the focus on the grass. I edited this picture by converting the picture to Black & White, adjusting the curves, and putting a filter on the picture. It could be better if I were to put more emphasis on the leaf in the picture. I chose this as my best because it looked the coolest and was the most thought out. I enjoyed this assignment, and I look forward to the next one.

Chris H - Josh Bench

I choose the picture of josh on the bench and simply called it Josh Bench. It was made in veterans park by having josh sit on a bench. I used curves on both the grass and the sky and turned the brightness up and had the contrast low. It could’ve been better if the building wasn’t in the background and it was just the park in the background. I choose it as my best because out of all the photos it has the best background in it that I could edit easily. Overall the assignment was not hard at all just frustrating to move a person into 30 different positions.

Antoinette M - Reading

This picture was taken of my friend Yana. We were at Veterans Park when we took the picture. I just made it black and white. I would have like her to have a better placement and a better angle. I liked the way it looked. This picture was actually taken by mistake and we were just being funny because we saw a free book stand but it turned out really cool in the end. My overall experience with this project was that it was really fun. I went with a  group to take pictures and we had a blast.

Emily L - Portrait

The edited image in which I chose as my best is Portrait 1 of Summer. I made this Thursday the 30th of October during 1st period by standing on top of the table and directing Summer to look up at me in the shade. I didn’t edit it a lot considering it didn’t really need it, I cleaned up the floor a bit and bumped up the levels and curves and that was it. It could be better if her body was more centered on the line of thirds and I would crop her to were she would be centered on the line if only it wouldn’t crop out most of the background. I chose it as my best because it looks amazing in my opinion and the sun light was just right. My overall experience with this was one of joy because I had a ton of fun taking photos of my friends. I love to take nature photos so it was fun to incorporate a person into nature.

Devontae J - Portrait

This is a portrait picture of my friend malarie and she was actually not posing for this picture.  i took this in between her moving around and laughing and stuff and she was embarrassed and shy to pose so i snapped this and it actually turned out beautiful

Caitlin L - Pumpkins

my best picture for this assignment was “pumpkins”. i took this photo in mt. laurel right outside of the corner store. i edited it by converting it to black and white and then adjusting the curves. the photo could be better by being more in focus. i chose this picture as my best one because i feel that it is the picture that gives the best unity and variety. i enjoyed this assignment. i feel as if this assignment gave more freedom to which pictures i could take while the editing process was also easier. since it is the end of the 1st nine weeks, i think that i have already grown as a photographer and have made a significant amount of progress since the first day.

Anna S - Portrait #2

I consider that my best photo is Portrait 2. This baby is my next door neighbor and she let me take pics of her for this project. She was just playing on the rock and I snapped this picture. I made this picture black and white, but I left the eyes blue for an effect. I also blurred the background. It could have been better if I didn’t get the background in it, also if she was laughing. I have chosen it as my best because I like how its an up close shot, and she is looking straight at the camera. My overall experience with this project is good. I enjoyed taking pictures of people and making them pose.

Crosby G - Girl in Tunnel

This picture was taken at Veterans Park underneath the road in the tunnel. Taylor didn’t know I was taking the picture and it turned out great. I edited the picture by making it black and white and adjusting the curves of the photo. It could be better if she was a little more on the rule of thirds line. I have chosen this photo to be my best because I love the texture of the walls, gravel, and the bush behind her. The way the curves are adjusted makes the dark parts go well together with the lighter parts. I liked this assignment because we could take the pictures of whatever we wanted to. Some photos look a lot better when they are edited to be black and white.

Josh T - Rock

This image, created using the elements of art and based on the principles of art, is entitled The Rock. This picture was taken during the early morning in the outskirts of a neighboring subdivision. The form of the rock is what is most striking to me in this picture.

Bailey R - Alexis

This is a picture of Alexis. It was taken in Mount Laurel, Alabama. I chose this picture because the facial expression on her is not fake or posed it really speaks to the viewer. Her face is in the right position for the right amount of sunlight. I love the contrast of her face with the stone wall. This picture captures her true beauty.

Billy R - Black and White

My mom and I were walking on the golf course and I found a golf tee on the the fairway. I picked it up and set up the ball on the tee. I cropped out unnecessary areas of the picture and transformed it into black and white.  I wish I could have got the logo aligned and centered more. I chose this as my best because I love sports and because I like how the picture emphasizes  the dimples on the ball. I enjoyed this assignment and now I look at small details more closely. I really enjoy taking pictures of sports, or things that incorporate sports.

Abby M - Portrait

This portrait assignment was made with a camera at Old Baker Farm.  I edited it back, brightening it, fixing some bad patches, clearing excess hair off the subject’s face and making the sunflower brighter. This could be better by having the subject be a little lighter. I have chosen this as my best because I believe it captures the element of design and has the elements to be considered a portrait. My experience with this assignment was good.

Maha A

I took this photo of the apple pie my family made last year on Thanksgiving. It is a tradition of ours to make pie. I used the heal patching tool to clean up the rims of the pie and adjusted the colors to make the colors vibrant. I adjusted the levels, vibrance, curves, brightness and contrast.

Alex F

This picture represents my cousin Michael.  Michael enjoys playing the drums and the guitar. To take this picture I stood on a chair so I could get high enough to get the drums in it too. To edit this picture I changed the saturation, hue, brightness, and curves.

Will S

I like this photo because the way the rock blocked portions of the pine straw from the rain, which makes the figure look like he is truly picking up the boulder. The earth tones in the

background also makes the figure pop more.

Haley S

I took this picture with the spider-man figure on top of a payphone we have in our basement. The figure got a little lost in color. So I made the picture black and white and to make the figure pop I made it in color.

Yana V - A Cup of Berries

The title for this piece is “A Cup Of Berries”, I took this picture in my kitchen and I simply put the berries into a cup, and just shot it from different angles. I edited this picture by zooming in to focus more on the cub of berries, and I changed the contrast and the tone of the photo to make the berries pop more. To make the photo better i probably could have changed the background at the top left to make it all white. I chose this photo as my best picture because I love how the berries stand up, and I love how cute the cup is, and the polka dotes match the colors of the berries, and they all just go together very well. I really liked the assignment because I already feel like a better photographer.

Vindhya B - Bracelet

My favorite picture was the picture with the bracelet. I took this on my balcony. I used the clone tool to hide the nails stuck into the wood. I used the Spot Healing Tool to hide random spots on the beads. I used the Dodge Tool to make the beads on the bracelet appear brighter and vibrant. I think it could have better if the top part of the bracelet was not blurry. I had fun shooting the pictures, but when it came to editing the pictures it was hard.

Rachel F - Beach

This is my favorite picture called The Beach. It was taken at a small beach on Lake Martin and I took it slightly lower than eye level with my camera. I edited it by changing the levels and making the colors balanced. I also saturated the colors of the leaves and the water to put more of an emphasis on the colors. It could be better if I balanced the camera more by maybe changing the viewpoint or changing the exposure. I think it is my best because of the vibrant colors and the rule of thirds. My overall experience with this excitement was that it was enjoyable and made me realize I need to always have my camera with me.

Natalie W - Sunglasses

I chose the picture of the reflection in the sunglasses as my favorite. I took this picture on a boat, at Lake Eufaula, using my iPhone 5. I brightened the picture and took away some imperfections on her skin. I also cropped and straightened it. This picture could be better if there was not any hair over the sunglasses and if the reflection was clearer. I chose this as my best because I like outdoor photography and I think this picture captures many elements well. I thought this assignment was fun but also a little challenging.

Michael P - Park Bear

This is a picture of my teddy bear in the park enjoying a nice morning of sun, play, and relaxation.  I enjoyed taking the picture with my bear because it was early morning and not too many people were at the park. The early morning sun gave good lighting to the picture and allowed it to show even more imagery. The shadows casted by me and my bear are also very intriguing to view. The last detail in the image is the bench that me and my bear are sitting on, that is relaxing and gives a very fun image of a day in the park to the viewer.

Ryan S

Another picture I really liked from this assignment was the picture of my toy in the refrigerator. I chose this for the same reason as the last picture, I was very pleased with the lighting. The light below the platform where the toy was sitting makes for a very cool effect. However, I could have gotten a better angle and stood back a little further. I felt like this picture had some flaws, but the lighting effect made up for those flaws.

Garrett M

I selected this photo because when I had taken the picture the first thought that came to my mind was that he was literally on top of his game. For editing the photo I just selected the softball then I chose select inverse, after that I gave the background a black and white filter then to add too that I changed the hue to a green tint and the saturation percentage down so it would not be as stand out. I thought the overall picture was one of the better photos that I had taken that day.

Mallory H

It took this picture of my lego toy at Nails 280. I placed my toy on the waiting table and set up nail polishes behind to be the background. I added contrast to the picture to make the colors pop.

Tucker P - Confusion

This was taken in my room with my iPod 5.
I edit this picture by straightening, cropping, and color balance.
I Could have taken the picture outside to have better lighting instead of having to edit out things.
I chose this as my best because it ended up looking the best, as well as it being my most creative in my opinion.
Overall, I enjoyed this assignment. I had some trouble trying to think of things to take pictures of, but it was still fun.

Extra: This picture is actually a puzzle where you try to guess what would come next.

Morgan P - Barn

This picture was taken at my best friends farm down in Prattville. I made this picture by going to the barn down the road and taking the picture from lying on the ground. I edited this picture with the sponge tool and I also changed the levels and vibrance. I copped it to be more level, also. I could make it better by keeping my camera more balanced. I chose it as my best because it is taken in one of my favorite places, it has awesome color coordination, and it has a very artsy feel. I enjoyed this shooting assignment. I really got a chance to get a better feel for my camera. My sister is a professional photographer, so I feel like this is helping me to get a better feel of what she does.

Sophie W - Psalms

My favorite picture that I edited was the picture of the bible open to Psalms. I took the picture in my front yard with my bible in the grass and my camera almost eye level with it. I edited the picture by increasing the vibrance and changing the color balance slightly. I could’ve made the picture better by putting it in the Rule of Thirds and when I was taking the picture, I should’ve made sure it wasn’t so blurry. I chose it as my best because I like the way the grass looks with the pages and how close up it is. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment because it was, for the most part, fairly easy.

Savannah F - Swing

My favorite photo is the one with the swing. This picture was made at my neighborhood’s park. I edited it by changing the levels, and adding more contrast to the picture. I also used the color balance to add more colors to my picture. I used the patch tool to fix some scratches out of the swing, and to make the bolts holding it together more alike. It could’ve been better by the angle I took it from to fix the lighting and the background. I chose this picture as my best because I think it really catches my attention as something different. My overall experience was just having a good time. I never wanted to put the camera down even after I finished, and I felt like I wanted one in my hands at all times so I could capture an even better picture than before.

Morgan L - Brother Holding a Banana

My favorite picture I took was my brother holding the banana. I made this picture up against a red wall in my kitchen. I used levels to darken the background and put more light on his face. It also resulted in making his eyes a lot bluer then they actually are. I could have fixed his fly-away hairs to make the picture more neat. I chose this picture because it is different than most pictures other people took. Many people took pictures of buildings and nature. For me, I enjoy taking pictures of people and animals. Overall I enjoyed this assignment, except for the stress of finding 30 different objects/things that start with the letter B!

Sydney W - Shoes

My favorite picture would have to be the Shoes picture. I chose this picture because it has a lot of the elements of design, like a leading line and unity and variety. It one of the last pictures I took for this assignment and was kind of a difficult one. Originally, I had three more pairs in different colors, but it was hard to get all of the shoes in and still have a completely focused picture, so I only used three pairs. The edited version of the photo is a bit brighter and I removed some of the scuffs from the toe of the shoes.

Tommy K - Chest

My favorite picture that i took was the red chest. This picture turned out very bright and the colors were very defined which is exactly what i wanted it to be. The red colors are very bright and vibrant and i believe it to be the focal point of the picture. To edit this picture, i began by using the clone stamp to get rid of any scratches on the chest as well as any fur from my cats on the floor. i then cropped the image to the size i wanted. After that, i used the burn tool on the edges and top of chest to make the front stand out more. I did not want to adjust the color because i loved how much the red stood out and i didn’t want to change that. One thing i could’ve done better is to have used the rule of thirds, but i like that the chest takes up most of the picture instead of just being on 1/3 or 1/2 of the picture. For the most part, i enjoyed this project. Sometimes however, i was often frustrated due to a very old camera. I tried to make the most out of what i had. Overall I think my old camera actually made me a better photographer, and i cant wait for the next project!

Crystal M

I took a picture of my sister's three stuffed animals.  I adjusted the photo’s curves and
levels. Then, I made the background black and white and made the pink middle stuffed animal pop.  This is my favorite picture, because I like the pop of pink with the black and white background.

Madison P

I picked this picture because of the many different colors in the picture.  I originally chose to take this picture because it was an example of worms eye view and birds eye view. It is worms eye when you are looking at the sunset and birds eye when you are looking at the field. I edited this picture so you would have more than one color stand out to you instead of just one.

Gabby C

This picture is of a Ketchup package that I found on the grass. The first thing I did was crop and edit the picture as I would normally  do. Then, I duplicated the layer, and turned the duplicated layer to black and white. Next, I added a layer mask. I used the magnetic  lasso tool next, and selected the parts I wanted to keep in color. Once the item was selected I used the paintbrush tool to brush back in the color.

Taylor M - Hay baler

One of my favorite pictures was this one that i took at my Dad’s friend’s farm. I had to lay down on the ground to get the upward perspective of the wheels. I edited this picture by turning up the vibrancy a good bit. I liked the colors it exaggerated. I then used the dodge tool to lighten certain parts of the metal so that their colors were brighter.

Jake D

This is one of my favorite pictures  because it was so easy to take. I laid down beside the golf ball, and focused on it then took the picture.   Once in photoshop, I blurred the background slightly so the eye is more drawn to the golf ball.

Summer S - Sunset

My favorite picture is the sunset picture. When I took this picture, it was outside of the car window in the drive thru line for Zaxby’s. I cropped out some of the trees and clone stamped out the remaining trees that couldn’t be cropped out. I also changed the levels to make the sunset look brighter and the cloud to look darker. I could make this picture better by making light come out more from the cloud. I chose this picture as my best because I love to watch sunsets. I had a great experience with this project, it was easy and fun. I’ve always loved taking photos but i never knew it could be this fun.

Shane B - Sunset

The picture i choose as my best was the Sunset. I took this picture when i was at my lake watching the sunset from my boat. I didn’t do too much editing on this picture other then adjusting the levels and playing with the contrast a little, the only major change was removing the boat that got in the way. This picture could be better if i had taken it with a actual camera and not my phone. I choose this picture because after editing it turned out the best looking. during this assignment i had i lot of fun going around looking for stuff to fill in for 30 pictures, and had even more fun hiking around looking for my 5 best pictures. I like to hike on the weekends and while i hike i keep an eye out for little critters and bugs, because they fascinate me.

Marvin T - Landscape

This photo was taken somewhere in Mexico in my grandparents ranch. This was the first time i have been to my grandparents ranch and seeing the mountains, animals, and how green everything was caught my eye. I did not really edit anything on this photo except for the color balance, levels, and curves. The way see it to make it look better is to add more different types of color than green and a some wildlife. The reason I choose this as my best photograph is because It catches my attention on how beautiful the outdoors can be. Some other reason why I think it is great is because I am always indoors and seeing something new for my life was magnificent. This also changed my perspective on the world after seeing this I tend to go out more in the world to capture its beauty.

Rebekah C - Crossing

My favorite picture  is the one of the crossing at the railroad. I took the picture is Haleyville, Alabama on a railroad crossing. I took it on a hill and so it was angled toward the sky. I edited it by highlighting certain spots on the sign and adjusting the vibrances and contrast, I also adjusted the curves, and I brightened the picture and also made the sky more blue. I have chosen this picture as my best because I like the way it looks. It could be better by trying to do the rule of thirds better. My overall experience of this assignment was it was really fun. My interests in photography are that I would like to make photography my job and that is why I took this class.

Michael A - Chain

I took a picture of a chain holding up a hammock. This chain has rusted and very easily shows the texture of the chain. While on Photoshop I was able to change the curves and contrast so that the texture would be even more visible.

Bebe W

This photo was actually taken in my favorite place of all time, Ireland. I love this photo due
to how well the water movement is captured against the cliffs. To edit this photo I adjusted the different levels as well as hue and saturation slightly. By doing this I was able to really bring out the texture and colors of all scenery captured.
