Hunter F - Savannah

This picture is from the portrait assignment and it is of my friend Savannah. The reason I like this picture so much is because she is laughing and having fun with the picture, which made her a good subject. She was having fun with the project which created a good mood. She made the overall project more fun because of her attitude towards it.

Heather W - Sunflower

I titled this Sunflower. My favorite color is yellow, so that is a color that I really wanted to pop in a picture. I found a really pretty sunflower and took a picture of it at Old Baker Farm. If I could change one thing it would be how the flower seems to glow; I would make it more crisp. I took this picture on my iPhone 5s on my own time and edited it during class, but not for a project. I was experimenting with black and white with a splash of color.

Caleb G - Portrait

The best photograph I took in this assignment is the one of the sausage stand. I took it at Tanehill State Park during their Halloween festivities. I edited it by using the dodge tool to saturate the older man in the center and the items and objects around him, and desaturated the other people in the picture who were not as important. It could be better if the focus were more on the subject and less on the people around it, maybe if the other people weren’t there. I have chosen it as my best because it displays the most clarity about the subject and accurately portrays his character. The assignment itself was enjoyable. I very much liked it, especially when I saw a better subject come along.

Lauren F - Portrait

The photograph I chose to use was the photo I captured of Alexis. In this picture, Alexis is positioned in a way where it just works. She is sitting on these steps that we found at Mt. Laurel. This photo really captures my eye, I guess it is the way the steps in the background really stand out. Her facial expression is really strong and the way she is sitting on the steps look great. She positioned her foot where it is kind of at an angle, she uses her hand and lets her head rest upon it, also the way the cardigan is kind of laying on the steps beside her just makes this picture all come together. For this portrait, I used a couple of things. First I would fix up the image and use the patch tool and also the spot healing brush tool to get rid of any blemishes, then I would add some brightness to the picture and contrast. After that, I go and add vibrance and a little bit of saturation to the photo. Finally, I add some offset to the photo and a little exposer to it. I loved this assignment. Portraits are one of my favorite things when it comes to photography.

Hieu H - Home

This is one of my favorite photos I shot and edited. I was just cruisin’ around my neighborhood on my skateboard with my camera after school and saw this house that I just thought seemed very worthy for a photo. There were large dogs, however, that were barking very loudly at me. I edited this photo to black and white which looked very nice because the house was already black and white.

Brittany W - Portrait

This photo was taken on the steps of my front door. I told Emily to sit on the steps and look way from the camera and make a strait face. The picture already had good contrast before i edited it but it needed just a little bit of editing to make it better. I adjusted the levels, brightness, and contrast to make her brighter and put the focus on her while making the background darker. I choose this as my best portrait picture because the colors and the position she is in is perfect. As I experimented with angles and photoshop I started to like this project. It turned out to be a lot of fun.

Crew V - Hat

The picture I chose for this blog post is my favorite black and white picture that I took. I really like the composition of the picture and how the wood from my deck provides and extra texture. The picture was taken on my back deck with my Columbus Crew hat. When I edited this picture, I had increased the saturation and lightness of the hat to really make the hat stand out from the other greys, blacks, and whites.

Gill S - Leaves

My title for this picture is Leaves.
This was taken on my back porch in the afternoon.
I edited it by making it black and white, and I changed its color slightly.
It could be better if it was in color, or if it followed the rule of thirds better.
I chose this one as my best because i like how you can see the rays of light.

I thought that this assignment was actually tough as it was hard to take pictures that would look good in black and white.

Drew H - Grassy

The title I gave my picture is Grassy. I took this picture outdoors in my neighbors yard. In order to make this picture, I had to lay flat on the ground and make the focus on the grass. I edited this picture by converting the picture to Black & White, adjusting the curves, and putting a filter on the picture. It could be better if I were to put more emphasis on the leaf in the picture. I chose this as my best because it looked the coolest and was the most thought out. I enjoyed this assignment, and I look forward to the next one.

Chris H - Josh Bench

I choose the picture of josh on the bench and simply called it Josh Bench. It was made in veterans park by having josh sit on a bench. I used curves on both the grass and the sky and turned the brightness up and had the contrast low. It could’ve been better if the building wasn’t in the background and it was just the park in the background. I choose it as my best because out of all the photos it has the best background in it that I could edit easily. Overall the assignment was not hard at all just frustrating to move a person into 30 different positions.

Antoinette M - Reading

This picture was taken of my friend Yana. We were at Veterans Park when we took the picture. I just made it black and white. I would have like her to have a better placement and a better angle. I liked the way it looked. This picture was actually taken by mistake and we were just being funny because we saw a free book stand but it turned out really cool in the end. My overall experience with this project was that it was really fun. I went with a  group to take pictures and we had a blast.

Emily L - Portrait

The edited image in which I chose as my best is Portrait 1 of Summer. I made this Thursday the 30th of October during 1st period by standing on top of the table and directing Summer to look up at me in the shade. I didn’t edit it a lot considering it didn’t really need it, I cleaned up the floor a bit and bumped up the levels and curves and that was it. It could be better if her body was more centered on the line of thirds and I would crop her to were she would be centered on the line if only it wouldn’t crop out most of the background. I chose it as my best because it looks amazing in my opinion and the sun light was just right. My overall experience with this was one of joy because I had a ton of fun taking photos of my friends. I love to take nature photos so it was fun to incorporate a person into nature.

Devontae J - Portrait

This is a portrait picture of my friend malarie and she was actually not posing for this picture.  i took this in between her moving around and laughing and stuff and she was embarrassed and shy to pose so i snapped this and it actually turned out beautiful

Caitlin L - Pumpkins

my best picture for this assignment was “pumpkins”. i took this photo in mt. laurel right outside of the corner store. i edited it by converting it to black and white and then adjusting the curves. the photo could be better by being more in focus. i chose this picture as my best one because i feel that it is the picture that gives the best unity and variety. i enjoyed this assignment. i feel as if this assignment gave more freedom to which pictures i could take while the editing process was also easier. since it is the end of the 1st nine weeks, i think that i have already grown as a photographer and have made a significant amount of progress since the first day.

Anna S - Portrait #2

I consider that my best photo is Portrait 2. This baby is my next door neighbor and she let me take pics of her for this project. She was just playing on the rock and I snapped this picture. I made this picture black and white, but I left the eyes blue for an effect. I also blurred the background. It could have been better if I didn’t get the background in it, also if she was laughing. I have chosen it as my best because I like how its an up close shot, and she is looking straight at the camera. My overall experience with this project is good. I enjoyed taking pictures of people and making them pose.

Crosby G - Girl in Tunnel

This picture was taken at Veterans Park underneath the road in the tunnel. Taylor didn’t know I was taking the picture and it turned out great. I edited the picture by making it black and white and adjusting the curves of the photo. It could be better if she was a little more on the rule of thirds line. I have chosen this photo to be my best because I love the texture of the walls, gravel, and the bush behind her. The way the curves are adjusted makes the dark parts go well together with the lighter parts. I liked this assignment because we could take the pictures of whatever we wanted to. Some photos look a lot better when they are edited to be black and white.
